Broncos sign Free-Agent DL Mike Purcell, OL Jake Rodgers and DL Billy Winn

The Denver Broncos signed free-agent defensive lineman Mike Purcell, offensive lineman Jake Rodgers and defensive lineman Billy Winn, it was announced on Monday. Purcell and Rodgers were tryout participants in the Broncos’ voluntary veteran mini camp last week.

Purcell (6-3, 328 pounds) is a fifth-year player who has appeared in 25 games (8 starts) with San Francisco (2014-16) in addition to competing on practice squads with Chicago (2017), Carolina (2017) and New England (2017). He entered the NFL with the 49ers as a college free agent on May 7, 2013, and most recently spent training camp with Kansas City in 2018.

During his NFL career, Purcell has recorded 42 tackles (29 solo), one sack (4 yds.) and one forced fumble. A three-year starter at the University of Wyoming, Purcell prepped at Highlands Ranch (Colo.) High School and was born on April 20, 1991.

Rodgers (6-6, 320 pounds) is a second-year player who has spent time competing on practice squads with the N.Y. Giants (2015), Carolina (2016), Pittsburgh (2017), L.A. Chargers (2017) and Baltimore (2018). Selected by Atlanta in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft from Eastern Washington University, he spent one week on the Giants’ active roster in 2015.

A native of Spokane, Wash., Rodgers was born on Sept. 10, 1991.

Winn (6-4, 300 pounds) is a seventh-year player who has appeared in 68 games (23 starts) with Cleveland (2012-14), Indianapolis (2015) and Denver (2016). He spent the entire 2017 season with Denver on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending knee injury in a preseason game.

In 16 games (2 starts) for the Broncos in 2016, Winn posted 19 tackles (8 solo) and one fumble recovery while playing the fourth-most snaps (342) among Broncos defensive linemen. Selected by the Browns in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft from Boise State University, his career totals include 111 tackles (68 solo), three sacks (19 yds.), two forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Winn started 41-of-53 career games played in four seasons (2008-11) at Boise State, totaling 131 tackles, 15.5 sacks, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries. A first-team all-state selection at Las Vegas (Nev.) High School, Winn was born on April 15, 1989.
