Big Moment finally comes for Senior QB Mike Schmidt

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. After four seasons, Air Force Senior quarterback Mike Schmidt finally had the game ball in his hands. A moment he had long prepared for and it showed.

"I kind of came to terms with what my role may be and a moment like this never even had to present itself for me to feel fulfillment in the four years of work that I've put in." said Schmidt.

The 3rd string quarterback led the Falcons to a blowout win over fellow Mountain West Power Hawaii. Schmidt accounted for 267 yards of offense and 4 touchdowns, enough to earn him conference player of the week honors.

"Mike stepped up in a great way for us and he had an amazing game. He kind of choked up after the game giving a speech to us. It was really emotional and really cool." said senior defensive back Jeremy Fejedelem.

A big time moment for a guy who has earned the respect and love of his locker room.

"Honestly for my teammates to say stuff like that to me personally is even greater than the moment, greater than any stat. I love every single one of my teammates and I love this program and being an Air Force Falcon and being on this team. It's meant a lot to me from the start." Schmidt said.

Air Force is now one win away from bowl eligibility. They will play Utah State Saturday night on the home field. Kick-off at Falcon Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m.
