DENVER (KKTV) - The Colorado Avalanche are headed to the postseason!
In front of a home crowd Thursday night, the Avs punched their ticket to the playoffs. They didn't do it with an outright win. At about 9:37 p.m. they tied with the Winnipeg Jets 2-2 to send the game into overtime. Giving the Avalanche just enough points to ensure a playoff spot.
Everyone in the Pepsi Center was on their feet in overtime as the Avalanche killed a penalty and then soon after notched a goal to win 3-2 over the Jets.
Erik Johnson scored 1:49 into overtime and Philipp Grubauer made 34 saves. Johnson took a feed from Nathan MacKinnon and knocked it past Connor Hellebuyck for the winner.
The Avalanche wrap up the regular season with a road game on Saturday in San Jose.
