Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon have been named 2017 Silver Slugger Award winners, as announced this evening by Louisville Slugger® and MLB Network. This is Arenado's third consecutive Silver Slugger Award and the second consecutive award for Blackmon.
Arenado joins Vinny Castilla, Matt Holliday and Todd Helton as the only players in Rockies history to win three or more Silver Slugger Awards and joins Mike Schmidt as the only National League third baseman to win the award in at least three consecutive seasons. This season, Arenado ranked in the top five in the National League in doubles, RBI, home runs, triples, slugging percentage, extra-base hits and total bases. He also became the first third baseman in MLB history to record at least 130 RBI for the third consecutive season.
Blackmon becomes the fourth Rockies outfielder to win multiple Silver Slugger Awards, joining Larry Walker, Matt Holliday and Carlos Gonzalez. In 2017, Blackmon captured the National League batting title with a .331 batting average while leading the Majors with 213 hits, 137 runs, 68 multi-hit games, 387 total bases and 14 triples. He also set new Major League records with 103 RBI and 383 total bases from the leadoff position.
Congratulations Nolan and Charlie!
