The 2019 Air Force football schedule was released today by the Mountain West as part of the conference’s overall schedule that is comprised of 97 games, including 48 conference matchups.
Air Force’s schedule features six home games, including the season opener against Colgate Saturday, Aug. 31, on Parents’ Weekend at the Academy. The Falcons also host San Jose State, defending champion Fresno State, Utah State, service academy rival Army West Point and Wyoming.
The Falcons have an open date following the Colgate game before traveling to Boulder, Colo., to take on Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 14. The meeting will be the first between the schools since 1974. The two schools played 16 times between 1958 and 1974. Air Force will make its first appearance in Boulder since 1973.
Air Force opens conference play the following week at defending Mountain Division Champion Boise State, Sept. 21. The Falcons play their first conference home game vs. San Jose State, Sept. 28. Air Force opens its quest to win a record 21st Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy by traveling to Navy, Oct. 5.
Air Force then plays three straight conference games, hosting defending conference champion Fresno State, Oct. 12, traveling to Hawaii, Oct. 19, and hosting Utah State, Oct. 26. Service-academy rival Army West Point opens the November slate in Falcon Stadium Nov. 2. Air Force then plays back-to-back road games at New Mexico, Nov. 9, and Colorado State, Nov. 16. Following a second open date Nov. 23, the team closes out the regular season by hosting Wyoming, Nov. 30.
The scheduling format for the 12-member Mountain West football lineup consists of five intra-divisional games and three cross-divisional contests. Each institution will play four home and four road conference games. The 2019 season marks the third year of the four-year cycle and the seventh year overall featuring the current rotation.
The 2019 schedule will play out over 15 weeks with each team having two open dates. The schedule concludes Saturday, Dec. 7, with the Mountain West Football Championship Game featuring the two divisional champions.
This release represents the first phase in the 2019 football schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN will now initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of particular games to Thursdays and Fridays. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times, along with the picks for regional partner AT&T SportsNet, Stadium and Spectrum Sports (Hawai‘i).
The 2019 MW football membership includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Nevada, San Diego State, San José State and UNLV in the West Division.
