WOODLAND, Calif. Following a record-setting performance on the high bar during last week’s victory over Army West Point, Air Force senior Lukas Texeira was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week this afternoon (March 5). It is the second such award for the Waukesha, Wis., native, who became just the fifth Falcon to earn the MPSF weekly honor more than once in a career.
The senior dominated the high bar on Saturday, March 2, breaking his own Academy record to secure the Falcons’ home victory over their service academy rivals. Scoring a 14.600 – the third-highest high bar score in the nation this season – Texeira won the event by 1.650 points. In addition to his victory on the high bar, he also matched his season-high of 13.850 to tie for the team’s highest finish on the vault (second) and added a top-five finish on the still rings (13.450, fifth).
With Saturday’s 14.600, Texeira now holds eight of the top-10 high bar scores in Academy history and is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA with a National Qualifying Average (NQA) of 14.383.
Texeira and the rest of the 13th-ranked Air Force squad heads out on the road for a pair of meets. The Falcons will face second-ranked Stanford for a conference dual meet in Palo Alto on Friday, March 8, before facing fourth-ranked Penn State, ninth-ranked Navy, No. 14 Arizona State and the NorCal club at the ASU Invitational in Tempe on Saturday, March 9.
