Air Force Senior Kyle Johnson receives National Defender Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Kyle Johnson has been an anchor for the Air Force defense this season. This week, the senior linebacker is being rewarded for his efforts.

The Charlotte Touchdown Club announced him as the 2019 recipient of the "Defender of the Nation Award." The honor goes to the best defensive player selected from the nation's nine military academies.

"Just a ton of spirit and ton of soul that he has. He plays that way and he lives that way." said Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun.

Johnson is second on the team in tackles with 44 and counting and he is the first Falcon in 2 decades to record multiple defensive touchdowns.

"I'm really honored to be considered that same caliber as some of the guys who have won before." said Johnson.

Air Force heads to New Mexico this weekend riding a 4-game win streak. Kick-off against the Lobos is set for Noon, Saturday.
