Air Force junior quarterback Isaiah Sanders has earned multiple player of the week honors for his performance in the team’s 41-35 victory over UNLV Friday night. He earned Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career, CollegeSportsMadness.com offensive player of the week for the Mountain West and earned one of eight Davey O'Brien Great 8 performances for his efforts.
Sanders had a career night at UNLV, recording 390 yards of total offense which is the second-most in school history. He rushed for a season-high 173 yards and matched his career high with three touchdowns with a career-long run of 45 yards. Sanders hit nine-of-11 passes for a career-best 217 yards and a touchdown, connecting on a career-long 69 yard pass for the score. He opened the game with nine straight completions which is the best at Air Force since 2013 and is fifth-best ever in school history. Sanders picked up 18 first downs in the game, 10 rushing and eight passing.
Sanders is second on the team in rushing with 348 yards and a team-best-tying five touchdowns on 87 carries. He leads the team in passing, hitting 33-of-56 passes for 557 yards and two scores. He is completing 58.9 percent of his passes and has a 147.75 efficiency rating.
He is joined by some of the nation’s elite on the O’Brien list, joining David Blough of Purdue, Tyler Huntley of Utah, Drew Lock of Missouri, Washington State’s Gardner Minshew, Kyler Murray of Oklahoma, Brett Rypien of Boise State and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. Sanders is the first Falcon to earn an in-season player of the week award this season.
Air Force is 3-4 overall this season and 1-3 in conference play. The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. in Falcon Stadium against Boise State.
