Air Force Hammers New Mexico 21-8 Sunday

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. Air Force baseball (24-26, 12-14 MW) defeated New Mexico (19-31-1, 12-19 MW), 21-8, on senior day and Mother's Day Sunday afternoon at Falcon Field. First baseman Nic Ready had a monster day at the plate, going 3 for 6 with a homer and eight RBIs.

After suffering a pair of one-run losses to the Lobos on Friday and Saturday, the Falcons made sure to come away with at least one win in the series and remain in the hunt for a spot in the Mountain West Baseball Championship tournament. The Falcons jumped ahead 9-0 after a two run first and seven run second inning. The Falcons scored in each of the first seven innings, including four-run innings in the third and fourth innings.

The Falcons racked up 21 hits on the day. Ready added a double and three runs scored. His homer was his conference-leading 18th of the season. Ready also extended his hitting streak to 27 games.

Catcher Rob Dau went 3 for 5 with a homer and five RBIs. Dau connected on a two-run shot to get things going in the first.

Ryan Robb and Drew Wiss both went 3 for 5 with four runs scored out of the 1-2 slots in the batting order. Colby Brown was the fifth Falcon with three hits, going 3 for 4 with a run and RBI. Jacob Booker added two hits. Ashton Easley also added a homer and two RBIs.

Junior Tyler Mortenson (4-6) pitched 5.1 innings in the start, striking out three in the win. John Byrnes, Nick Biancalana, Joe Kincart and Tucker Jacobs closed out the game in relief.

New Mexico had 17 hits on the day. Hayden Schilling had four hits and an RBI to lead the Lobos. Starting pitcher Nathaniel Garley (2-4) was roughed up for nine runs in 1.2 innings pitched.

With Air Force up 9-0, New Mexico plated two runs in the third. The Falcons went up 17-2 after the four-run third and fourth innings. Air Force scored a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh. New Mexico scored three in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the ninth.

Prior to the game, Air Force honored its senior class of 2018. Jacob Booker, Nick Biancalana, Justin Graham, Ryan Holloway, Tucker Jacobs, Joe Kincart, Riley Nix, Ryan Robb, Travis Wilkie and Tyler Zabojnik were honored for their contributions to Falcon baseball.

Air Force has is last home game Tuesday, hosting Northern Colorado. First pitch is an early one, starting at 1 pm MT.
