COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Air Force Academy women's soccer junior goalkeeper
Danielle Katz was named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8, the conference announced Monday, Sept. 9. It is the first weekly accolade for the Falcons this season, and the first of Katz's career.

Katz was once again stout in net in the 3-0 won over service academy rival Army West Point Saturday evening, Sept. 7. The Maryland native made four crucial saves to preserve the shutout, while facing a total of 11 shots. Her efforts helped AF to its first win over Army since 2008, and the second shutout in as many games against the Black Knights.

It was the third shutout win for Katz in four games this season. Coming into the year, Katz had played in just two career games as a sophomore, serving as a backup goalkeeper and totaling 26 minutes. She is also just one of three Mountain West goalies with three or more shutouts this season.

Air Force returns to the pitch this weekend for its first two road games of
the regular season, with both occurring down in Jacksonville, Fla.. It all
starts Friday, Sept. 13, against Jacksonville University. Kickoff against
the Dolphins is set for 5 p.m. MT.
