Air Force Drops 10-7 Contest At UNLV On Sunday

Air Force baseball (15-21, 8-10 MW) dropped a 10-7 contest at UNLV (26-12, 9-6 MW) in a Mountain West road game Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. Senior Jacob Booker led the Falcons by going 4 for 4 with two RBIs.

The Falcons rallied back from 4-0 and 6-3 deficits to take a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth. The lead was short lived, as the Rebels re-took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. UNLV tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to pull away with the win.

Air Force had 14 hits and five doubles on the day, with each player in the lineup recording a hit. Booker had a career-high for hits, including a double and run scored. Nic Ready had two hits, including a double. Tyler Zabojnik had two hits, including an RBI.

Sean Kelley (1-1) took the loss in relief. Starter Tyler Mortenson pitched 4.1 innings, striking out three. John Byrnes and Jake Gilbert also pitched in relief.

UNLV had 14 hits. Kyle Isbel and Nick Ames homered for the Rebels. Reliever Blaze Bohall (3-1) picked up the win. Starter Trevor Horn pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs. Bryan Menendez closed out the game with a save.

UNLV scored four runs in the first to take an early lead. The Falcons scored three in the fifth to pull to within one. UNLV answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to go back up 6-3.

Air Force scored four in the sixth to take the 7-6 lead before UNLV came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to re-take the lead.

The Falcons return to action Tuesday, April 17, at Northern Colorado.
