COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV)- Melissa Adamson has been sentenced for the death of her 2-year-old son.
Adamson will spend a total of 24 years in prison, six years for each charge contributing to the delinquency of a minor and 12 years for the death of her toddler.
She pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in her child's death after leaving out a gun to protect herself from a meth dealer. The toddler shot himself with that gun.
She was also facing charges for giving her two other sons marijuana for doing chores around the house.
Her two surviving children wrote letters that were read aloud in court. One of her sons asked the judge for the highest sentence possible. He described the abuse and horrific conditions they grew up in under the care of their mother.
Adamson also read her own letter saying she cannot change the horrible example she has become but says that it is time for her to become better.
