MERRIMACK, N.H. (KKTV) - A New Hampshire woman is facing charges after allegedly pushing her golden retriever into a lake and letting it drown.

Police say 66-year-old Nancy Bucciarelli shoved her 11-year-old dog off a dock at Naticook Lake on June 8 and stood by as it struggled to swim to safety. A number of bystanders rushed to help after realizing what was going on but were too late to save the dog. The water was reportedly 3.5 feet deep and 74 degrees.

Witnesses said Bucciarelli never made any effort to help the elderly dog.

Bucciarelli turned herself in after police issued an arrest warrant and faces animal cruelty charges. She will be in court later this month, according to CBS Boston.
