COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs Utilities said a road in the northeast part of the city was shut down for most of Friday while crews worked to fix a water main break.
According to CSU, Vickers Drive was shut down between Lyncrest Drive and Union Boulevard while crews worked to patch a major hole in the road and clean up debris
An 11 News crew on scene Thursday night saw water gushing into the air and rushing down the street like a river.
According to police, firefighters on scene said the water started to ice over almost immediately. 11 News Reporter Jenna Middaugh saw sand laid down at the intersection of Union and Vickers to help with icy spots.
On Friday morning, a dump truck dropped a load of dirt off, and crews started to push some of the dirt into the gaping hole in the road.
CSU is asking drivers to avoid the area to give crews more time and space to fix the break.
