The state of Colorado is saying goodbye to a young hero Wednesday.

Kendrick Castillo, an 18-year-old high school student

, is being laid to rest Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to the funeral, hundreds of Jeep and 4x4 drivers are honoring Kendrick with a procession to the church. Catherine Fanaro, founder of the Colorado Jeep Girls, said as soon as word got out about Kendrick's love of Jeeps, drivers of the vehicle sprung to action.

"This is a huge turnout, I didn't expect it to get as big as it did, and it's not just Jeepers. It's other 4x4 enthusiasts and car clubs and stuff that have reached out and said, 'Hey I wanna be part of this.'"

Fanaro told 11 News the procession came together in just three days. Nearly a thousand drivers signed up, and even drivers who are not participating say they plan to show their support by having the school's colors -- blue and yellow -- somewhere on their Jeep.
