2 Fort Carson soldiers release song to honor fallen on Memorial Day
This Memorial Day weekend, two Fort Carson soliders in Afghanistan are hoping you remember those who have died fighting for our freedom.
1st Lt. Andrew Yacovone and 1st Lt. Justin Wright are the two members of "Interstate 10," a band they started together. Four of their friends died on their last deployment to Afghanistan. They are releasing their new song "I'm Gonna Miss You" this Memorial Day weekend to honor the fallen.
11 News anchor Dianne Derby talked to them via Skype from Afghanistan.
"I was talking to Private Williams' mother over Facebook just yesterday and she loves her son so much," said Wright. "His sacrifice will never be forgotten and I think it's a huge thing that we don't forget that sacrifice people have made to make sure we have freedom to go have a BBQ on the weekend and do whatever we want."
The two filmed part of their video with the members of their battalion during this deployment in Afghanistan.
"I had people holding cameras and people willing to be extras and we got the whole company together holding the sign that says 'We miss you'," said Yacovone.
"The meaning behind it has elevated from the first day Andrew started writing it and to what we believe it is now, especially after our Kandahar deployment and what we saw with those guys," said Wright.
And until they come home, they want you to know they won't forget the men, women and families who have sacrificed so much.
"Take a moment to remember those so we never forget, and keep them in your prayers, and keep their families in your prayers and ultimately celebrate that such men have ever lived," said Yacovone.
The soldiers say if their YouTube video gets to 100,000 views by midnight on Memorial Day, they will make a donation to the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. If you want to see the full video
