Train engine catches fire near Palmer Lake
Firefighters worked quickly to put out flames coming from a locomotive engine before it spread.
Crews from the Palmer Lake Fire Department were called to the engine fire in Palmer Lake on Friday around 10:48 a.m.
They discovered the rear engine was smoking heavily and somehow caught on fire. They called for help from the Tri-Lakes Fire Department.
By the time Tri-Lakes arrived, Palmer Lake Fire Department already managed to quickly put the fire out on their own.
Along with the help of the train's engineer, they were able to shut off the engine completely while it was still attached to the train. They were then able to get the locomotive moving again to the Pueblo rail yard.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
