Suspect arrested in overnight robbery spree
A man tried to rob a fourth convenience store overnight Friday when police say the clerk outsmarted the suspect and helped them make an arrest.
Justin Salvatore was arrested, suspected of stealing cash from three convenience stores in northeast Colorado Springs in a robbery spree.
It started around 1 a.m. when officers were called to the Kum & Go on N. Carefree Circle. Salvatore allegedly went inside the store wearing a mask with a gun on his hip and demanded money. He then reportedly took off with the cash to make his next move.
About 25 minutes later, officers say Salvatore allegedly committed the same crime, wearing the mask with a gun showing, and took cash from a 7-Eleven on S. Carefree Circle. Police say he struck again about 25 minutes later at the Diamond Shamrock on Palmer Park Boulevard.
Finally, at the suspect's fourth location at the 7-Eleven on Barnes Road, police say the clerk was able to hide from Salvatore long enough to leave him waiting before he decided to flee without any cash. While the clerk was hiding, police say the clerk was able to give a description of the suspect.
Police rushed to the area and were able to catch Salvatore as he was driving away from the store.
Salvatore was taken into custody. During that time, police were also able to get the weapon that he reportedly had on him.
