Detectives are investigating whether a string of robberies across northeast Colorado Springs late Monday night into early Tuesday are related.

Police responded to the 3600 block of Austin Bluffs Parkway a little before midnight on an armed robbery. While investigating, officers got another call about a robbery near Woodmen and Marksheffel. Not long after, they received two reports of vehicles being stolen.

At one point, officers became involved in a car chase in the area of Meadowland Boulevard and North Academy. The suspects fired at least two shots at police, missing the officers but hitting their patrol car. The officers did not fire back.

The crimes spanned such a wide swath of the city that the police department went on accident alert status for a few hours because too many officers were involved in the robbery calls.

Police say the suspects in each case were described wearing similar clothing. Robbery detectives are now trying to determine if the crimes are related.

The two stolen cars were recovered within a few hours, police said.
