Sleeping baby listed for sale in Craigslist ad
A sleeping baby, in a for sale ad on Craigslist.
The ad reads, "Healthy white baby for sale cheap. Works fine but leaks out of his eyes occasionally." The price on the ad was listed as $2,500.
Our 11 News crew went to the address listed on the post. The baby’s father told our 11 News crew, the online listing was meant to be a joke.
"My baby was crying this morning. and I was joking with my girlfriend so I thought it'd be funny to post it on Craigslist saying this kid's crying too much, I'm going to sell the baby,” said the baby’s father, Chris Small.
Small says the post was meant for his girlfriend and said they have a sarcastic sense of humor.
"Some people took it lightheartedly as I meant it; some people said, 'I needed a laugh today, that was funny.' Other people did not take it the same, they took it as a very bad thing,” Small said.
"It could be a scam, but still, that's a baby. You don't do that to babies, you don't do that to anyone. If I would've seen that on Craigslist, I'd call the cops,” said neighbor Andrea Edwards.
The Craigslist ad was deleted shortly after our 11 News crew left the family’s home.
“I apologize for any public outcry. He's not for sale, he's definitely mine, I love him and I'm keeping him,” Small said.
Colorado Springs police told 11 News they did investigate and said, they determined it was a joke and there was not true intent to sell the child.
Since there was no criminal intent to sell the baby, an attorney tells 11 News the Craigslist ad falls under free-speech.
