COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Oh say can you see!
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox are extending an offer to artist Fergie: A chance at redemption following a harshly-critiqued performance before the NBA All-Star Game in 2018.
Sox the Fox, the "director of fun" and mascot for the Sky Sox, sent out a paw-signed letter addressed to Fergie on Wednesday. You can read the letter at the bottom of this article. The team is inviting her and the public to the national anthem auditions for a chance to sing during the 2018 season at Security Service Field.
The letter commends Fergie on her attempt to take a risk with a "jazzy" national anthem but is hoping she can attend the open auditions on March 3 at the Chapel Hills Mall in the Springs. Auditions are scheduled to start at noon that day and run until about 3 p.m. (Yes, these are real auditions, for anyone wondering).
Soloists, duets, trios, and quartets are invited to audition "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" for a chance to sing during the 2018 season at Security Service Field. Five winning contestants will be determined by a panel of guest judges.
The top performer of the day will be selected to sing the "The Star-Spangled Banner" or "God Bless America" on Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4. Second place will earn the opportunity to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" on opening day. The remaining winners will be invited to perform at a home game during the 2018 season which runs through Sept. 3.
All vocal performances must be a capella or accompanied by a personal instrument and only traditional renditions of songs will be considered for selection. Each performer may audition for either "The Star-Spangled Banner" or "God Bless America" and will be considered for either song.
To reserve an audition time between noon and 3 p.m. on March 3, please contact Crystal Mazey in the Sky Sox Community Relations department at 719-597-1449. Walk-up auditions on March 3 are welcome and will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis as time permits.
The home opener is scheduled for April 10 against the New Orleans Baby Cakes. The Sky Sox will dress as the 1900-era Colorado Springs Millionaires to kick off their "Cheers to 45 More Years" season-long celebration.
