Shot fired during car theft Monday morning

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A person hoping to drive in a warm car Monday morning ended up with no car after losing it to a thief.

Police tell 11 News the victim was "puffing," a term used for leaving a vehicle running and unoccupied, while grabbing a forgotten wallet from inside their home. They returned to their BMW to find a stranger sitting in it. The suspect fired one gunshot as perhaps a warning shot -- as the shot was not aimed at the victim, according to police -- and sped away in the poached car. No one was hurt.

The vehicle is described as a gray 2005 BMW 325 sedan with temporary tags. The suspect is only described as a 6-foot-tall man; no other description was availavle.

The incident happened in the 4700 block of Picturesque Drive on the northeast side of Colorado Springs.
