COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A spokesperson for Memorial Hospital Central says there is no threat to staff or patients following reports of a shooting at the hospital early Saturday afternoon.
A 911 call came into police around 1 p.m. regarding a shooting at Memorial Central.
Memorial's spokesperson tells 11 News that the hospital remains open and fully operational and that patients are still able to come in.
Police have identified the deceased victim as 74-year-old Victoria Orcheretinsky, a woman from El Paso County.
The suspect, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was named as 72-year-old Yuzef Orcheretinsky.
Police said on Wednesday that the suspect and victim were siblings, and Ms. Orcheretinsky. was a patient at the hospital when the shooting occurred.
The following statement was sent out from Memorial Hospital:
This afternoon, there was a shooting at Memorial Hospital Central. No employees or providers were involved, and the incident is now over. There is no danger to any patients, employees or the public. At no point was it necessary to evacuate patients, and all services remain fully operational and open, including our emergency and trauma departments. We are working closely with the Colorado Springs Police Department; please direct any questions about the incident to CSPD.
