2 injured in 3-vehicle Highway 94 crash east of Colorado Springs

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle collision east of the Springs late Saturday night.

State Patrol tells 11 News the driver of a Volkswagen was westbound on Highway 94 when she tried to pass a Jeep traveling in front of her and collided head-on with a Kia coming from the other direction. The Jeep was not directly involved with the collision but was hit by flying debris as the other two vehicles crashed.

The driver of the Kia suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital via Flight For Life The driver in the Volkswagen had minor injuries but did go to the hospital as a precaution.

The crash happened between Engleby Drive and Peyton Highway, about 12 miles from Colorado Springs. Highway 94 was closed in both directions for two and a half hours, reopening very early Sunday morning.

State Patrol did not have information on whether the driver of the Volkswagen would be cited. Drugs, alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.
