COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Police were investigating a crash in Colorado Springs early Friday morning that killed one man.
The call came in around midnight in the area of Palmer Park Boulevard and North Academy Boulevard. Police say two cars crashed head-on at the intersection.
"Our witnesses are telling us that vehicle no. 1 was traveling westbound on Palmer Park, running red lights as he continue to move westbound," said Lt. Howard Black with CSPD.
Black said that car spun into the parking lot of a nearby 7-Eleven. The driver of that car had serious injuries, and the passenger was killed.
The driver of the car that was hit had non-life threatening injuries, according to Black.
He said this case is being investigated as a vehicular homicide.
"Alcohol and recklessness is most definitely contributing factors in this investigation," Black said.
Major Accidents Unit was investigating the crash into the early morning hours on Friday. Palmer Park Boulevard and one direction of Academy Boulevard was closed during the investigation.
Black said police are doing what they can to make the roads safer, but it's also up to drivers.
"This has got to be a community coming together and saying enough is enough," he said. "You have a friend that’s getting behind a steering wheel that is intoxicating, stop that from happening."
