Pedestrian seriously hurt after being hit by car

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A man was left in serious condition after he was hit by a car Saturday night.

The southbound lanes of Academy were shut down for hours as officers investigated. Police say the pedestrian walked out into oncoming traffic.

They got the call just before 6:30 P.M.

Officers tell 11 News a 20-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police then downgraded the injuries to serious condition.

At this time it does not appear alcohol or speed were factors in this crash, and no one has been ticketed or arrested.

This is the fourth serious auto-pedestrian accident this year. Two of them have been deadly. Investigators tell us they had a total of 10 deadly pedestrian crashes all of last year.
