Lower Phantom Canyon Fire near Penrose now contained

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A fire burning near Penrose is now contained.

Fire crews battled strong winds through strong winds to get the upper hand on the Lower Phantom Canyon Fire. The fire broke out early Wednesday afternoon along the 4000 block of Fremont County Road 67 and scorched 2 acres before crews could build containment lines around it.

Firefighters will remain on scene to make sure the fire does not breach containment lines. Red flag conditions are expected for the remainder of Wednesday into Thursday.
