Red Cross plans to close Regency Tower shelter later this week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) The American Red Cross of Southeastern Colorado announced that they will be closing the Regency Tower shelter on Friday around noon.

That's according to a release that was sent out on Thursday morning.

The shelter is located at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs. It was meant to offer support for the victims of the fire at the Regency Apartments.

The fire, which happened on May 24th, forced more than 100 residents out of the homes and lead to the death of an 89-year-old woman.

The Red Cross decided to keep the shelter open longer than expected after residents were told that could not return to their apartments until August.

According to the release, "additional support for residents of Regency Towers is still available and residents are urged to contact Silver Key Senior Services." Their number is (719)-884-2300.
