LAS ANIMAS, Colo. (KKTV) - The community of Las Animas doesn't want a veteran to be laid to rest alone.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home confirmed with 11 News the public is invited to a service on Wednesday for Horace Marrinan. Marrinan was a navy veteran. Most of his family live far away on the east coast and may not be able to make the service.

The service is expected to include a 21-gun salute, a prayer and the playing of "Taps."

"It is an honor to honor those who served our country," Pattiey Pennington, a member of Legion Post 8, told 11 News.

Jody Bracy, the Senior Vice Commander at American Legion District 1 in Colorado shared the information on the funeral with 11 News, hoping we could share it with the public.
