Authorities believe alcohol, drugs and reckless driving may have played a role in a crash that seriously injured several people, including three kids.
Troopers say 38-year-old Misty Johnson was using the shoulder to pass several vehicles on westbound Highway 50 Friday afternoon when she lost control and crashed into a Dodge Ram pulling a camper. Both vehicles then spun off the road and flipped over. Johnson was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from her car.
The driver in the Dodge Ram, identified as 35-year-old Michael Engebrecht of La Junta, suffered serious injuries and was flown to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. An 8-year-old in the truck was also seriously hurt; her condition has not been reported.
Troopers say the other passengers in the Dodge -- including 38-year-old Lauren Engebrecht, a 13-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son -- sustained moderate injuries in the rollover.
Johnson was taken to Parkview Medical with moderate injuries and will be booked into the Pueblo County Jail once she's released from the hospital. She's facing charges of vehicular assault-DUI and vehicular assault-reckless driving.
The crash happened in Pueblo County at mile marker 337.
