Suspect in deadly hit-and-run on Academy arrested

Colorado Springs Police have arrested a man they believe hit and killed a pedestrian in early December.

25-year-old Joshua Seth Larson of Colorado Springs has been arrested for hit and run involving a death, driving while license under restraint and driving without headlights on.

The incident happened on Dec. 4 at about 8:00 p.m. on N. Academy Blvd and Marion Dr. 52-year-old Jeffrey Jacobs was found dead.

The investigation is ongoing and the Major Accident Unit is asking for anyone who might have information on this deadly accident to come forward.

Thanks to an eagle-eyed passerby, police have now located the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run over the weekend.

Police say a member of the public recognized the SUV from the description released Monday and called the Police Department.

The driver, who was in a 2008 Ford Escape, hit a man crossing North Academy Sunday night and kept going. The pedestrian died at the scene. He was identified Tuesday as 52-year-old Jeffrey Jacobs of Virginia.

The crash happened on North Academy just north of the Citadel Mall. Police say Jacobs and a companion were crossing outside the crosswalk.


Police did not say where they found the vehicle or if they had any information on the driver's whereabouts.
