CHEYENNE WELLS, Colo. (KKTV) - Hours after a standoff started, an armed suspect was taken into custody in a small eastern Colorado community.
The incident started at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office received a report of a gunshot through a house in Cheyenne Wells. The sheriff's office arrived at the scene at about 8:43 in the morning, and the suspect fired at least one shot. It isn't clear if the suspect fired a shot at law enforcement officials.
The suspect went into a home and reportedly refused to come out.
A "CodeRed" was put out for nearby residents alerting them to stay indoors.
Law enforcement officials entered the home at about 4:30 p.m. and found the suspect unresponsive, but alive. He was arrested and taken by ambulance to the hospital. He does not appear to have injuries and has not been publicly identified.
Cheyenne Wells is more than 100 miles east of Colorado Springs.
