Police activity closed northbound I-25 near Pueblo, 1 suspect taken into custody

I-25 northbound was closed on 11/6/19 for police activity. This was the scene just south of Pueblo.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - Northbound I-25 was closed in the Pueblo area for police activity Wednesday night.

The announcement of the closure came from CDOT at about 10 p.m. Police were in the area between the Stem Beach exit and Pueblo Boulevard exit on the south side of the city.

At about 10:20 p.m. the highway was back open.

Colorado State Patrol confirmed one person was taken into custody following a chase involving the Huerfano County Sheriff's Office. There were no injuries reported.

The sheriff for the Huerfano County Sheriff's Office is reporting the man taken into custody was Dominic Mondragon. He was wanted on several warrants out of Pueblo including criminal impersonation and assault on a police officer. The sheriff stated the chase ended along I-25 when a Colorado State Patrol trooper executed a PIT maneuver.

Mondragon is expected to face additional charges of felony eluding and flight to avoid prosecution.
