Police: Two arrested after brief standoff, stolen rifle and car recovered

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Two people were in the El Paso County Jail Friday morning following a brief standoff that started with police investigating an April car break-in.

Colorado Springs police said they started investigating April 29 when a car was reportedly broken into in the 3500 block of Jon Street.

During the investigation, police officers identified 21-year-old Matthew Kingery as a possible suspect when he reportedly tried to sell one of the stolen items.

Officers said they tried to contact Kingery in the 4200 block of North Nevada Avenue on Thursday around 9 a.m. Police said there was a brief standoff before Kingery and 19-year-old Shannon Dungan were arrested.

According to police, Kingery also had several warrants. Officers said they found a stolen rifle and a stolen vehicle at the scene.
