Police: Student assaults Sierra High School teacher

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - An 18-year-old Sierra High School student was arrested Wednesday for reportedly assaulting a teacher.

Sierra High School is in southeast Colorado Springs in Harrison School District 2.

The student has been identified as Angelina Chavez. Police say the female teacher was knocked to the ground and punched several times.

The investigation revealed students were taking a test when Chavez reportedly tried to get into the class, which was not her assigned room, to get a jacket from another student.

Police say the teacher tried to block the student from entering the room during the test. At that point, officers say the teacher was punched with a closed fist multiple times and knocked to the ground. Several other students reportedly tried to pull the student off.

The teacher suffered injuries including contusions on the right side of her forehead. Police say the student suffered swelling to her hand and may have fractured her knuckles from the assault.

Chavez was served and has since been released for city assault. Her mugshot was not immediately available.
