Police: Shirtless car thief caught when he tries to stop stolen car from being towed

Police say as soon as the tow started hooking up the vehicle, the suspect came flying out, sans shirt, hollering at the driver to stop towing "his" car.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A shirtless man led Pueblo police on a short chase after trying to stop "his" car from being towed Saturday morning.

Police say the car had been reported stolen from Colorado Springs and was spotted at a south Pueblo apartment complex at 2:30 a.m.

Police called a tow, and as the truck began hooking up the vehicle, the man ran out of an apartment topless, carrying the keys and yelling, "Don't tow my car!"

He then saw the officers, threw the keys down and started running.

When officers caught up to him, he insisted he had nothing to do with the stolen car. A likely story, police say, because "it was the only one being towed at 2:30 in the morning, and he had the keys."

Despite his protestation, the suspect was arrested for motor vehicle theft.
