Pedestrian dies a day after being hit in Colorado Springs

A person has died a day after they were hit by a vehicle in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs Police announced the death of the pedestrian on Wednesday,

They did not publicly identify the pedestrian. The crash happened at the intersection of S. Nevada Avenue and E. Las Vegas Street. When the Colorado Springs Fire Department arrived on scene, the pedestrian was pinned beneath the vehicle.

Police say the pedestrian tried to cross S. Nevada Ave. and was hit by a vehicle turning southbound from the westbound lanes of E. Las Vegas Street. Police say alcohol, drugs and high speeds are not considered factors in the Tuesday afternoon crash.

An autopsy is scheduled with the El Paso County Coroner's Office. As of Wednesday, no charges had been filed and the investigation was ongoing. The death marks the first traffic fatality of 2018 in Colorado Springs.
