Otero County Jail closed due to gas leak

LA JUNTA (KKTV) The Otero County Sheriff's Office sent a release Monday saying a gas leak outside the county jail caused them to evacuate the inmates. It started Saturday at the jail in La Junta. The inmates were moved to jails in Bent and Pueblo counties. Repairs are expected to be finished by Tuesday.

January 7, 2018 – The Otero County Sheriff’s Office closed its jail Saturday due to a gas leak on the exterior of the building. The gas did not enter the jail.
The gas to the facility was turned off until repairs could be made. For their safety and comfort, inmates are being housed in Bent and Pueblo counties until the gas can be turned back on.
Repairs are estimated to be completed by Tuesday.
The Sheriff’s Office is still providing services to the community while repairs are being made.
