COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) A groundbreaking ceremony took place Thursday to celebrate a new high school in Falcon School District 49.
The new school is called the Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy. It will be a charter school expansion of Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, which currently serves kindergarten through eighth grade.
The school is on track to have its first freshman class start fall 2017.
“Our upcoming eighth graders will be our first freshman class, and they will then get to be our first graduating class in 2021," said Deann Barnett with the Banning Lewis Ranch Academy.
The school boasts 80,000 square feet. It will hold 1,050 students. Between the two campuses, there will be 1,600 students attending the schools.
The construction is on a quick timeline, in order to meet demands of the community.
“It’s been very quick, and normally it takes a lot longer than this," said Eric Dinnel with Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, "but we’ve got a lot of demand for the school and we’re excited to offer the program for students and families.”
“We for a long time have had a really successful school, and our families have really wanted the opportunity to continue that success with the same kind of programming and the same emphasis, the same culture that they’ve had," Barnett said.
