Man suspected of killing Kelsie Schelling going to trial for a different case

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A judge decided there was enough evidence to send the man suspected of killing Kelsie Schelling to trial for a different case.

On Monday it was decided Donthe Lucas would go to trial for a crime in which police say he robbed a man and beat him with a gun. Lucas is also accused of killing Schelling, a woman who was pregnant when she went missing in 2013. Schelling allegedly drove to Pueblo to tell Lucas she was pregnant when she went missing. Lucas was arrested in December for her murder, her body was never found.

Lucas' mother pleaded guilty to her role in the same robbery on Tuesday.

Sara Lucas was arrested on the robbery charge the same day her son was arrested for murder.

The robbery took place Sept. 1, 2017 in the 1100 block of W. Mesa Avenue in Pueblo.

Sara's son, Dushon Lucas was arrested on Nov. 14. Her other son, Donthe was arrested for the robbery on Nov. 13 and then arrested for charges of first-degree murder in the Schelling case.

Sara Lucas' guilty plea came on the same day that Donthe had a court hearing.

Sara was given a deferred sentence for the robbery, meaning if she completes probation and doesn't get into any legal trouble the crime will be cleared from her record.
