Mobile urgent care more accessible for families, now accepting insurance

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A Colorado Springs-based mobile urgent care is expanding the number of patients it can see by working with major insurance companies.

Eileen Flavin, a nurse practitioner, started Anywhere Urgent Care after she took her son to a traditional Urgent Care and felt that she was charged too much.

“Everything was great until I got the bill. It was $660, and because it was so outrageously expensive, I decided to open my own practice as a mobile Urgent Care,” Flavin said.

Her services are available for children and adults any day of the week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“We are typically open when doctor’s offices are not open, so if you have a loved one that’s sick on the weekend or after hours, we can certainly come out and see them and evaluate them,” Flavin said.

New this year, Anywhere Urgent Care is accepting Medicare, United Health and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Flavin said she expects to double the number of patients she sees.

“We try to keep our prices affordable so people can receive appropriate health care and not avoid health care because they’re afraid they can’t afford it,” Flavin said.

The price starts at $149 to have a nurse practitioner visit your home. The cost can go up, depending on what services you need.

“Typically, we treat people who have Urgent Care-type symptoms, so that would be fever, sore throat, respiratory infection, dehydration,” Flavin said. “Perhaps somebody needs suturing or somebody has a sprain or a strain, we can take care of that as well.”

She said she’s not replacing primary care doctors but filling in the gaps and offering more flexibility for families.

“I think when I see children in their home, they’re definitely more comfortable with me as a practitioner because they’re in their own surroundings. It’s less traumatic for them,” Flavin said. “It can really be a crisis if you have a child that’s sick and then you have to go to Urgent Care and you have drag everybody and you have to expose them to getting sick because you’re taking them to an Urgent Care.”
