Methane explosion injures 1 in Rush, school canceled for the rest of the week

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A methane explosion was reported in Rush, about an hour east of Colorado Springs along Highway 94 injuring at least one person.

It happened near the Miami-Yoder School. No students were injured. Crews were working on the sprinkler system about 150 feet south of the school and there was a build up of methane gas. When crews turned on a valve, there was an explosion.

One of the workers were flown to the hospital with burns on his hands and face, but his injuries are not critical. No one else was hurt.

Miami-Yoder School District 60 was closed Wednesday. The next day the district announced the school would remain closed Thursday and Friday.
