COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A man was killed early Sunday morning after losing control of his car and plowing through a fence.
"A little after midnight, we received information on a single-car crash," said Lt. Howard Black, spokesperson for the Colorado Springs Police Department. "When officers arrived on scene, they found an adult male still inside the vehicle and trapped."
Firefighters arrived on scene soon after and confirmed the man had died. On Monday, the El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 27-year-old Adam Askew.
The crash happened in the area of North Carefree Drive and Whip Trail in the east part of the city.
"The vehicle appears to have been traveling in a westwardly direction on Carefree at a high rate of speed. He lost control. continued westbound; he did least one rotation and ended up through a fence into a small shed," Black said.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash.
"What is unfortunate as you look at this scene is you can see two car seats in the rear of this car. There are no children involved [in the crash], we just have the one adult male deceased."
The crash is the 10th deadly crash in Colorado Springs 2019, one more than at this time last year.
2018 was the deadliest year on the roads in city history.
