COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Springs police are searching for the person who shot a man in the head and left him lying in a field early Monday morning.

Officers said they were investigating a break-in at the Everyday convenience store at the corner of Tejon Street and Brookside Street around 1:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots up the street. Police released information on Wednesday stating they don't believe the break-in and shooting are connected.

"Officers then went toward the area of those shots on Brookside between Nevada and Tejon, and they located an adult male in a field with at least one gunshot wound," said Lt. Jim Sokolik with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The El Paso County Coroner's Office confirmed Wednesday that he died.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000.
