MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Two men were arrested after a man was found lying face down in a kiddie pool in Manitou Springs.
Police were called to 601 Manitou Ave. at about 12:30 Thursday morning for an assault case. They found a man lying in a kiddie pool that was full of water. The man was alive, but clinging to life. He died Thursday afternoon.
Two men were arrested and face charges of first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Both 33-year-old Freddie Joseph Crespo and 25-year-old John Robert Swinehart were booked into the El Paso County Jail.
A neighbor says she witnessed a fight between the suspects and victim.
"We thought, 'Oh, they’re just fighting again,' because they fought all the time," neighbor and witness Christi McWilliams told 11 News. "There was constantly fighting going on. There was constantly partying going on. Two young men against an older man with a brace who just had surgery on his knee.”
She says she saw the suspects carry the victim and throw him in her children's pool.
"I would hate [if] my children walked out in the morning and found somebody in our pool," McWilliams said. "He [the victim] was a nice guy. He did not deserve this. Not at all."
Police are still asking other witnesses to come forward.
"We have no reason to believe that there is any threat to the public resulting from this incident," police wrote in a press release. "This
remains an ongoing investigation and anyone with information should contact the Manitou Springs Police Department through the El Paso County Dispatch Center at 719-390-5555."
