Major marijuana bust in Colorado Springs leads to a second bust
While following up on a shots fired call, authorities discovered a large illegal marijuana operation at a Colorado Springs property. The first discovery led to additional information on a second location and two arrests.
Colorado Springs police report the Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division conducted a "knock and talk" in the 2400 block of Stinton Road on Wednesday. The knock and talk was conducted as authorities were doing a previous call-for-service on a report of shots fired that happened back on Feb. 4. During the investigation, officers found an active marijuana grow on the property. A search warrant was obtained.
Investigators found 352 marijuana plants, 1300 cloned marijuana plants and 33 pounds of refined marijuana packaged for distribution in the home. Investigators also learned of a second illegal grow location in the county.
A second search warrant was obtained for a property in the 8100 block of Piute Road, just to the southeast of Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Investigators found a mobile home that had been turned into a marijuana grow operation. Twenty-one marijuana plants and more than six pounds of refined marijuana were seized at the property along Piute Road.
Katia Sanchez and Jose Cala Calvo were both arrested for the grows. They both face charges of felony cultivation and distribution.
