Part of I-70 closed west of Vail for a wildfire threatening structures

EDWARDS, Colo. (KKTV) - One of Colorado's busiest highways was shut down Thursday evening for a wildfire threatening structures.

Colorado State Patrol is reporting I-70 was shut down just before 6 p.m. in Edwards. The town is just west of Vail. Crews on scene were asking the public to avoid the area and keep roadways clear for first responders, including Highway 6.

At about 7:30 p.m. the westbound side of I-70 was back open as eastbound remained closed.

Details on how many homes were threatened were not immediately available.
