'Huge' fire reported at scrapyard in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - Authorities in Pueblo responded to a fire near Santa Fe Avenue and Santa Fe Drive Saturday afternoon. A spokesperson for the Pueblo Sheriff's Office tells 11 News the fire started at a scrapyard.

Pueblo Fire crews are working to contain the large debris fire at American Iron & Metal. A website for the company says they recycle scrap metal including junk cars, trucks, appliances, and more.

A large plume of black smoke could be seen in the area. The Pueblo Fire Department says traffic is backed up for miles.

A captain with the Pueblo Police Department tweeted a picture of the flames describing the fire as "huge" and asked people to avoid the area.
