Horses seized in El Paso County animal cruelty investigation

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said deputies seized two horses because of severe emaciation. Law enforcement executed a search warrant on Wednesday at a home on Meridian Road.

Sara Simpson is facing two misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty.

The Humane Society of the Pike's Peak Region was assisting the sheriff's office on scene. The horses were then taken to an American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) approved boarding facility.

Deputies also said the remains of two birds are being tested to determine how they died.
