Former Colorado teacher arrested, accused of sexual assault of a child

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KKTV) - A former teacher in Douglas County has been arrested for sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust.

The Aspen View Academy principal, Bob Barber, told parents in an email sent Wednesday, Castle Rock police arrested former teacher, 27-year-old John Adkins.

Investigators said he allegedly touched a student inappropriately during class.

In the email sent home to parents, principal Barber said Adkins was employed as a seventh-grade math teacher at Aspen View Academy from August 2018 to February 1, 2019.

Barber said Adkins was placed on leave at the end of January when the concerns were brought to his attention.

"Less than 48 hours later, he was no longer part of our school community," Barber said in the email.

Castle Rock Police said this is an ongoing investigation. Adkins is being held in the Douglas County Jail without bond.
